AJ Stack is a graduate of Bexley Seabury Episcopal Seminary in Columbus, Ohio, and was ordained to the priesthood in 2016. He is currently serving a two-year residency in his native eastern region of the Diocese of Southern Ohio, where he shares his time between St. Peter’s Church in Gallipolis and Christ Church in Ironton. AJ’s undergraduate degree is in social work and he practiced as a Licensed Social Worker in the fields of drug and alcohol recovery, adolescent mental and behavioral health, foster care case supervision, and employability and job retention skills development. Until leaving for seminary he was also the business manager for his family’s electrical contracting company. One of the forces behind AJ’s call to ordained ministry has been God’s invitation to live in reconciled and intimate community. He was therefore drawn to return to Appalachia after ordination, where relationships and connectedness are the name of the game.
AJ is married to Steven, a Professor of Music and the Director of Orchestras at Ohio University in Athens. They live in Gallipolis with their two dogs and backyard chickens.
In a humorous example of how important relationships are in small communities, the 190-year-old home AJ and Steven recently moved into turned out to have been owned by a former parishioner, who was the sister-in-law of a former rector, who in turn is the grandson of the parish’s priest in the early 1900s!
